Why Didn’t My Spray Tan Get as Dark This Time?

If your spray tan didn’t get as dark as it did last time, don’t panic. There are several reasons this can happen, and most are completely normal.

1. Your Skin Wasn’t Properly Prepped
Using bar soaps, moisturizing body washes, or lotions before your appointment can leave a barrier on the skin, preventing the tanning solution from developing correctly.
2. Your Skin Was Dry
Dry skin absorbs spray tan differently than hydrated skin. Regular exfoliation and moisturizing (before your prep window) help create a more even tan.
3. Hormones Can Affect Results
Menopause, hormonal changes, pregnancy, medications, and even your menstrual cycle can influence how your skin develops a spray tan.
4. You Rinsed Too Soon
Every tanning solution has a recommended rinse time. Rinsing early can lead to a lighter final result
