What Do I Need to Do Before Getting a Brazilian Wax? Windham, NH
Thinking about booking a Brazilian wax but not sure how to prepare? Whether it’s your first Brazilian wax or you’ve been waxing for years, a little prep can make your appointment easier and help you get smoother, longer-lasting results.
At The Skin & Waxing Studio in Windham, NH, Brazilian waxing is one of our specialties. And trust us—you do NOT need to do anything fancy before you come in.

1. Let Your Hair Grow
This is the most important part.
For your first Brazilian wax, we recommend about 3–5 weeks of hair growth whenever possible.
If you’ve been shaving, put the razor down and let it grow.
And please—don’t trim before your appointment.
Hair that is too short can be difficult for the wax to grab, which may leave you with hairs that couldn’t be removed.
2. Gently Exfoliate Before Your Wax
Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells that can trap hairs underneath the skin.
Use an exfoliating glove 2–3 times per week leading up to your Brazilian wax.
Keep it gentle. Scrubbing harder does NOT mean smoother skin.
Avoid aggressive exfoliation immediately before your appointment if your skin feels irritated or sensitive.

3. Shower Before Your Appointment
A normal shower before your Brazilian wax is perfect.
Come in with clean, dry skin and skip heavy lotions, oils or body butters on the area being waxed.
No need to stress about being “perfect.” We wax bodies all day. Hair is literally the reason you’re coming to see us.
4. Wear Something Comfortable
Loose, breathable cotton clothing is your friend after a Brazilian wax.
Tight leggings, underwear or clothing that rubs against freshly waxed skin can cause unnecessary friction and irritation.
Give that skin a little breathing room.
5. Tell Your Waxer About Medications or Skin Products
Certain medications and skincare products can make your skin more sensitive.
Always tell your wax specialist if you’re using prescription skincare, strong exfoliating products, retinoids or medications that may affect your skin.
When in doubt, ask us before your appointment.
6. Yes, You Can Get Waxed on Your Period
Your period does not automatically mean you have to cancel your Brazilian wax.
You may be a little more sensitive during that time, but waxing can still be done. Wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup to your appointment.
7. Don’t Stress About Your First Brazilian Wax
We know getting naked from the waist down in front of a stranger can feel intimidating.
But for us? It’s just another day at work.
At The Skin & Waxing Studio, we specialize in making Brazilian waxing comfortable, professional and judgment-free. All bodies are welcome here.
You can ask questions. You can tell us you’re nervous. And you never have to apologize for your body or your hair.
What Should I Avoid After a Brazilian Wax?
Your waxer will go over aftercare with you, but for the first day after your Brazilian wax, you’ll generally want to avoid excessive heat, sweating and friction.
That means giving your skin a break from things like intense workouts, hot tubs, very hot showers and sexual activity immediately after waxing.
Continue exfoliating once your skin has settled to help prevent ingrown hairs between appointments.
How Often Should I Get a Brazilian Wax?
Most Brazilian wax clients come in approximately every 4–6 weeks, depending on their individual hair-growth cycle.
Consistency matters.
Hair grows in different stages, so your first wax may not leave you quite as smooth as future appointments. It can take around three consistent waxes to get more of your hair growing on the same schedule.
And whatever you do…
Don’t shave between appointments.
