How to Exfoliate After a Brazilian Wax Windham NH
How to Exfoliate After a Brazilian Wax
Want to keep your Brazilian wax smooth and help prevent those annoying ingrown hairs?
Exfoliation is one of the most important parts of Brazilian wax aftercare.
But there’s a right time—and a right way—to do it.
At The Skin & Waxing Studio in Windham, NH, we recommend regular, gentle exfoliation between Brazilian wax appointments to help remove dead skin and keep new hairs from becoming trapped underneath the skin.

When Should I Exfoliate After a Brazilian Wax?
Not immediately!
Your skin has already been exfoliated during the waxing process, so give it some time to calm down.
Once any redness or sensitivity has settled, you can begin gently exfoliating again.
If your skin still feels irritated, wait.
How Often Should I Exfoliate After a Brazilian Wax?
We recommend exfoliating about 2–3 times per week between Brazilian wax appointments.
More is NOT always better.
Over-exfoliating can irritate your skin, which is exactly what we’re trying to avoid.
Consistency beats scrubbing the life out of yourself once a week.
What’s the Best Way to Exfoliate After a Brazilian Wax?
One of our favorite methods is a simple exfoliating glove.
In the shower:
Wet your skin and exfoliating glove.
Gently rub the waxed area using the glove.
Don’t aggressively scrub.
Rinse your skin.
Let your glove completely dry between uses.
That’s it.
You don’t need a 12-step routine to take care of your Brazilian wax.
Why Do I Need to Exfoliate After a Brazilian Wax?
Waxing removes the hair from the follicle.
As new hair begins growing back, it needs to make its way through the surface of your skin.
Dead skin buildup can sometimes make that harder.
The hair can become trapped underneath the skin instead of growing outward—and hello, ingrown hair.
Regular exfoliation helps remove that buildup and keeps the surface of your skin clear.
Does Exfoliating Prevent Ingrown Hairs?
Exfoliating can help reduce the chance of ingrown hairs, but no routine can guarantee you’ll never get one.
Ingrown hairs can happen for several reasons, including:
Dead skin buildup
Friction
Curly or coarse hair
Tight clothing
Improper aftercare
Regular exfoliation is one of the easiest things you can do at home to help keep your skin smooth between Brazilian wax appointments.
Should I Use a Scrub After a Brazilian Wax?
You don’t need an aggressive body scrub to get good results.
In fact, piling multiple exfoliating products on your Brazilian area can sometimes create more irritation instead of helping.
We like to keep it simple:
Gentle exfoliation. Consistently.
Your skin doesn’t need to be scrubbed into submission.
What If I Already Have Ingrown Hairs?
First: don’t pick them.
Picking, digging or squeezing can cause additional irritation and may leave behind dark marks or scarring.
Stay consistent with gentle exfoliation and use aftercare products recommended for waxed skin.
If you’re struggling with frequent ingrown hairs, talk to your wax specialist. We can take a look at your current routine and help you figure out what may be contributing to them.
Don’t Forget Your Waxing Schedule
Great aftercare works even better when you’re consistent with your Brazilian wax appointments.
Most clients return approximately every 4–6 weeks.
And please…
Don’t shave between appointments.
Shaving between waxes can interfere with getting your hair onto a more consistent growth schedule.
